I was born and raised in a family that delighted in Saturday trips to the town dump where sometimes my dad would find more things to take home than he had to drop off. As an artist over the years. living in cities, I seem to have a honed to a frequency of gleaning to the point when within a short time, I can attract exactly what I need. Mostly I can see the value and potential beauty in what others have discarded.
In this furniture process I start some old pieces by removing anything flakey. With smooth new pieces, I'll start with a paint wash.Then, selectively I sand and build up layers with brush, sponge, and splatter. A clear coat finish usually ends up covering five to fifteen layers and colors.
